We chat with Corporate Girl and Content Creator - Mandy Huang (24), about juggling the life of full time work and the fast paced demands of being a social media creator.
Can you share how you manage to balance your corporate career with your content creation endeavours?
Mandy: At the very beginning it was a real struggle to be completely honest. But slowly settling into the corporate world, I learnt to balance it and keep my love for content creation as a hobby rather than looking at it like a part time job. I allowed myself to have breaks and limited brand deals to avoid any burn down.
How do you prioritise self-care while juggling the demands of your professional and creative pursuits?
Mandy: Ensuring I still had fun and incorporated my creative side with self care. Having a hobby where I do what I love is part of my self care routine. It makes me happy! However I do take time off to ensure I don’t go down a rabbit hole of stress, allowing myself to take breaks when needed and knowing when to take them is the most important! Also treating yourself is key!
"Having a hobby where I do what I love is part of my self care routine."
How has Empowering Beauty helped with this in the past?
Mandy: They are the literal meaning of ‘self care’! Facials and massages are the way to cleanse your mind and soul! Treat yourself every now and then!
What strategies have you found most effective in maintaining a healthy work-life balance?
Mandy: Knowing when to clock off, remove emails and work apps off your phone or turning the notifications off outside of work hours! If anything is urgent people will text you. I tend to go into the office too, makes it easier to separate work and life, take lunch breaks and long walks when you’re in the office to clear your head!
Can you discuss a time when you faced challenges in balancing your corporate responsibilities and personal passions?
Mandy: Yes, early 2023 I struggled a lot, my old job was time and energy consuming. I found my relationships inside work was going great while my relationships outside of work deteriorated. I was struggling a lot with personal and health issues and needed to ensure I prioritised myself first, which led to changing career paths.
What advice would you give to other corporate professionals looking to incorporate self-care into their busy schedules?
Mandy: Take time for yourself. It’s okay to take a day off, or take an extra long weekend. At the end of the day, the world is not going to fall apart if you don’t reply back to an email on time!
Keep up with Mandy's journey here.
